What is Therapeutic Laser?

What is Therapeutic Laser?

Therapeutic laser is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes focused light energy to stimulate natural healing processes within the body. Unlike traditional "cold" lasers, this advanced system delivers a higher light intensity, allowing for deeper penetration into tissues.  This enables effective treatment of a broad range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, reducing pain and inflammation at the cellular level.

How does it work?

Advanced laser therapy works through a process called photobiomodulation. When the high-power light energy is applied to the skin, it is absorbed by chromophores within the cells (like cytochrome c oxidase in the mitochondria). This absorption triggers a cascade of biological reactions. Research suggests these reactions lead to increased cellular metabolism and ATP (energy) production, which in turn:

  • Reduces inflammation and swelling.

  • Accelerates tissue repair and regeneration.

  • Provides rapid pain relief by modulating nerve activity.

  • Increases blood circulation to the affected area, bringing vital nutrients and oxygen.

  • Stimulates muscle relaxation

The higher power output of our laser system ensures that enough energy reaches deep-seated tissues, promoting more comprehensive healing.

What to expect

During an advanced laser therapy session, you will typically feel a gentle, soothing warmth in the treated area. The intensity of this warmth depends on the power setting and the duration of application. It should always be a comfortable sensation, not painful. Many patients describe it as deeply relaxing. The immediate pain relief experienced by some patients is also a noticeable sensation during or shortly after the treatment.

How long will the treatment take?

Thanks to the high power output of our system, treatment sessions are remarkably quick. A typical session for a specific area usually lasts between 2 to 10 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated and the chronicity of the condition. This efficiency makes it easy to fit therapy into busy schedules.

General frequency

The frequency of advanced laser therapy sessions varies depending on the nature and severity of your condition. For acute conditions, treatment may be more frequent initially, possibly daily or every other day, to rapidly reduce pain and inflammation. For chronic conditions, sessions are typically scheduled 2 to 3 times a week, gradually tapering down as symptoms improve. A complete course of therapy usually involves 5 to 15 sessions, though your personalized treatment plan will be determined during your initial consultation based on your specific needs and response.

Is it safe or effective?

Advanced laser therapy is generally considered safe and highly effective when administered by a trained and qualified professional. It is a non-invasive procedure, eliminating risks associated with surgery or injections. Our laser system is designed with patient safety in mind and is FDA-cleared for various therapeutic applications. Numerous clinical studies and meta-analyses have demonstrated its efficacy in significantly reducing pain, inflammation, and accelerating recovery across a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. Patients often experience substantial improvement in pain and function.

Are there any risks or side effects?

When performed by a qualified practitioner, advanced laser therapy has a very low risk of serious side effects. Potential, usually minor and temporary, side effects may include:

  • Transient redness or mild warmth in the treated area.

  • Rarely, a temporary increase in pain immediately after the session, which quickly subsides.

Advanced laser therapy is generally not recommended for direct application over certain areas or conditions, including over cancerous lesions, over a pregnant uterus, over pacemakers or other implanted electronic devices, or directly over growth plates in children. Strict adherence to safety protocols, including the use of protective eyewear for both the patient and therapist, is always maintained. We will conduct a thorough medical assessment to determine if this therapy is appropriate and safe for you.

How do I know I need it?

You might benefit from advanced laser therapy if you are experiencing various types of musculoskeletal pain, inflammation, or injuries, especially if they are chronic or have not fully responded to other conservative treatments. Common conditions for which advanced laser therapy is often recommended include:

  • Acute injuries such such as sprains, strains, and bruising.

  • Chronic pain conditions affecting the back, neck, shoulder, knee, and other joints.

  • Tendinopathies (e.g., Achilles tendinitis, rotator cuff tendinitis, tennis elbow).

  • Arthritis (osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis).

  • Neuropathic pain (e.g., carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica).

  • Post-surgical pain and to accelerate wound healing.

  • Muscle spasms and trigger points.

If you're suffering from persistent pain or an injury, a consultation with our experienced team can help determine if advanced laser therapy is the appropriate and effective solution to help you find lasting relief and accelerate your recovery.
